Features to Consider in Gaming Laptops in Rs 90000 budget

As you increase your budget, you get greater freedom to choose from the best of options available. The Rs 90K budget is excellent because you can enter into uncharted territories like the 10th generation Intel Ci7 processors and NVidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti cards.

You also get access to hybrid storage and faster RAM. Other features like Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth v5.0 are also available on select models. However, Thunderbolt 3 connectivity is not yet available in this budget range. Under such circumstances, here are the factors you should consider when investing in gaming laptops in this budget range.

Central Processing Unit – CPU

As you have a generous budget of Rs 90K, you can experiment with a range of powerful processors. This budget allows you to ignore the less powerful 10th generation Ci3 and even the 9th generation CPUs. However, the 9th generation Ci7 and Ci9 processors could fit into this budget with better graphics cards.

The models we have discussed in this article come equipped with 10th generation Ci5 and Ci7 CPUs. Alternatively, you can opt for the 4th generation AMD Ryzen 5 and 7 series processors. They come with features that compete with those offered by the 10th gen Intel counterparts.

When choosing the ideal CPU in this range, you can look for the H-series processors that guarantee hyper performances. These processors’ advantage is that they exhibit higher clock speeds, thereby ensuring quicker booting and faster processing.

As you choose between the Intel and AMD Ryzen CPUs, the debate as to which is preferable comes to the fore.

Performance-wise, there is not much of a difference because the benefits available in one model compensate for its drawbacks. For example, AMD processors have lower clock speeds at the end of the scale, but they have a higher base clock speed. Besides, AMD Ryzen chips are compatible with RAM as fast as 3200 MHz, while the Intel chips support 2933 MHz.

Costs wise, AMD Ryzen chips are better, but the higher-end Intel Core processors feature excellent options like Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.0, hybrid memory, Intel Iris graphics, and AI-enabled features.

Hence, you have a plethora of options before you. The ideal processors for this range are the 10th gen Ci5 and Ci7 and the 4th generation AMD Ryzen 5 and 7 series.

Graphics Processing Unit – GPU

The benefit of looking for gaming laptops in the Rs 90K budget is that it allows you to opt from an extensive range of graphics processing units. The best you can go for is the NVidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti or the 1660 Ti, depending on the CPU settings.

Other graphics options include the non-Ti versions of GTX 1650 and 1660, along with the lower versions like GTX 1050, GTX 1060, MX-Series, etc.

The advantage of the higher-end graphics cards is that they are compatible with higher refresh rates like 120 Hz and 144 Hz. Simultaneously, they can work well with the 60 Hz refresh rate monitors also.

It is advisable to go for GPUs with dedicated memory options in 4 GB GDDR5 or GDDR6 VRAM. It ensures that the graphics cards do not consume system memory and do not affect its overall performance.

The higher-end NVidia GeForce RTX cards are not available in the Rs 90K budget. However, some models offer Game Boost technology that can offer better graphics performances with the GTX 1650 and 1660 cards.

System Memory – RAM

Ideally, gaming laptops require a minimum of 8 GB RAM. However, you have a generous budget that allows you to opt for better RAM, say 16 GB. When doing so, it is better to go for dual-channel RAM as it exhibits better performance.

The AMD Ryzen 5 or 7 series CPUs support higher speed RAM up to 3200 MHz, whereas the Intel Core processors can support a maximum of 2933 MHz. Similarly, the AMD Ryzen CPUs support capacities even up to 64 GB.

The maximum the Intel Core processors can support in this budget is 32 GB. However, any RAM over 16 GB will push the overall pricing above the Rs 90K mark. Hence, you can explore expandable options where you can add more RAM in the future if required.

The advantage of higher speed and more RAM is that it enhances your gaming appliance’s multitasking ability.

Storage Options – HDD and SSD

When gaming, you need adequate storage to store the program files and apps. Gaming also requires you to switch windows frequently. Hence, you need appliances that multitask well. Therefore, storage capacity plays a critical role in the gaming laptop’s configurations.

The latest Intel Core CPUs allow hybrid storage where you can have a combination of HDD and SSD. When it comes to pure storage, HDD is a better option because it is considerably cheaper than SSD storage.

Therefore, HDD storage fits into almost all budgets. This generous 90K budget can accommodate up to 1 TB HDD storage comfortably. You can also fit in up to 256 GB SSD in this budget.

Let us now compare HDD storage with SSD and see how it is beneficial to have hybrid storage instead of a single storage option.

HDD can read/write at speeds 5400 and 7200 rpm. SSDs are considerably faster than HDDs. The M.2 NVMe PCIe solid-state drives can work at speeds up to 35 times that of HDDs.

SSDs do not have any moving parts. Hence, they are not susceptible to damage, whereas HDDs are.

Compared to HDDs, SSDs are light and occupy less space. They also enhance processing speeds considerably.

Therefore, it is better to have HDD/SSD combo storage, especially when your CPU supports it.

Display – Screen size and Resolution

The larger the screen, the more attractive it is for gaming. Hence, you can go for screen sizes as large as 15.6 inches. However, it does not entail that smaller screen sizes are not available in this budget. The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 features a 14-inches screen size.

The minimum you should have for a gaming laptop is FHD (1920 x 1080p) when it comes to screen resolution. Anything less than 1080p will not give you a satisfying gaming experience. Another crucial aspect of your screen resolution is the refresh rate.

Generally, laptop screens come with 60 Hz refresh rates. However, if you can opt for a better refresh rate, like 120 Hz and 144 Hz, you should go for it.

The graphics cards work beautifully with higher refresh rates. Additional features like Adaptive-Sync or G-Sync can help synchronize the graphics refresh rates with that of the monitor and play games without lag.

Other features like IPS and anti-glare are common in almost all laptops in budgets over Rs 60K. They help enhance the viewing experience to a different level.

Keyboard – A critical aspect

When you have a 15.6-inches screen, it offers more space for a full-sized keyboard with an additional numeric pad and strategically-placed arrow keys. It enhances gaming convenience considerably.

Your Rs 90K budget allows you to invest in a quality keyboard with features like 100% anti-ghosting, N-Key rollover, soft-landing switches, excellent travel distance, and laser-engraved WASD/arrow keys.

This budget allows you to have keyboard backlighting that enables you to play games in the dark without disturbing anyone.

Audio Performance

Many people have the wrong notion that audio performance is not necessary for a gaming laptop. The latest games available online today need gamers to communicate with their team members.

Besides, the action-packed games come with music and sound effects. Therefore, a gaming laptop needs to come with excellent audio features.

Audio performance is essential because it enables gamers to know what their opponents are up to. It enhances the responsiveness factor because you can hear the softest sounds and react accordingly.

Some models discussed here come with Harman Kardon speakers, whereas some display Dolby Audio compatibility. The specifications can differ from one brand to the other. However, it is always better to have your gaming laptop come with a decent audio system.

Cooling Technology

Besides the high-level CPU/GPU configurations, the factors that affect the overall gaming laptop’s pricing is the cooling technology available on the device. Gaming and other graphics-intensive activities cause a build-up of heat inside the appliance.

If there is inadequate ventilation, the heat trapped inside can damage the expensive components. Hence, all gaming laptops come with discrete cooling systems.

The cooling system works on a simple principle of allowing free air circulation to take place. The hot air is flushed out of the system, and cool air is circulated using large-diameter fans. Such devices require a wide air intake area and heat sinks to enable quicker cooling.

Laptops like Acer Nitro 5 feature CoolBoost technology that enhances fan speed by 10% and CPU/GPU cooling by 9%. Similarly, Lenovo Legion 5i features Coldfront 2.0 technology to deliver optimum cooling performances.

Battery Life

Laptops are meant to be carried along with you wherever you go. Hence, they have to be light and portable. Besides, these devices need high-quality batteries that ensure uninterrupted functioning for extended periods.

Compared to conventional laptops, gaming devices are heavier because they feature additional storage, graphics cards, cooling equipment, and larger screens. However, they are also portable.

The ideal battery life for a gaming laptop should be around six to eight hours. Many manufacturers advertise a battery life of up to ten hours, but it is not generally possible because of various factors.

Besides exhibiting excellent battery life, these devices should come equipped with Rapid Charging features. They allow quick recharging of the batteries up to 50% to 80% within an hour. It can prove handy when you travel a lot and do not have continuous access to charging facilities.

Connectivity Ports

Almost all the laptops feature Wi-Fi compatibility, depending on the CPU it has. The high-end 10th generation Intel Core i5 and i7 CPUs support Wi-Fi 6, the latest and fastest Wi-Fi today. However, Wi-Fi 802.11ac is also preferable because it offers decent connectivity speeds.

Similarly, all gaming laptops come equipped with Bluetooth compatibility. Some feature Bluetooth v4.2, whereas the latest models support Bluetooth v5.0. Apart from these two common connectivity modes, you have devices that support Infrared.

Additionally, you have the regular connectivity ports like USB Type A and B, USB Type C, Thunderbolt 3, HDMI, Ethernet RJ45 cable port, audio/microphone ports, and smart card readers. Of these ports, the Thunderbolt 3 is not available on laptops in your budget. The USB Type C port supports excellent data transfer speeds. Besides, these are reversible ports, unlike the normal USB ports.

We have discussed all the aspects that merit consideration when looking for a gaming laptop under Rs 90K. Here is the gist of the ideal specifications to make it easy for you.
